DGB 4: Optimising and Integrating Information
Information is not finished merely because it is factually correct. For a school website, help page, presentation or knowledge base it must also be current, understandable, structured, appropriate to the target audience and integrated into an existing format. Students work as editors who improve and organise information deliberately.

Learning objectives
[Bearbeiten]Students can:
- identify outdated or incomplete information;
- update content using reliable sources;
- improve clarity, precision and structure;
- adapt information to different target audiences;
- adapt content to different media formats and applications;
- revise language while preserving meaning;
- organise information using headings, categories, tags and links;
- integrate content into a wiki, website or other knowledge structure;
- add multimedia only when it improves understanding;
- consider accessibility during revision;
- use peer feedback as part of a quality process.
Learning content
[Bearbeiten]Updating information
[Bearbeiten]Dates, links, statistics, contacts and technical instructions can become outdated. Revision begins by checking what is still valid and documenting the source of important updates.
Improving content
[Bearbeiten]Better information is accurate, concise enough for its purpose and logically organised. Remove duplication, clarify ambiguous statements and separate essential information from detail.
Adapting to the target audience
[Bearbeiten]The same fact may need different vocabulary, examples and depth for younger students, parents, specialists or the general public. Adaptation should simplify presentation without falsifying content.
Adapting to media and application
[Bearbeiten]A printed handout, wiki page, short social post, presentation slide and help article each require different length, structure and navigation. Content should fit the medium rather than merely be copied into it.
Language and editorial revision
[Bearbeiten]Editing checks grammar, tone, terminology and readability. Consistent terms and headings help users find and understand information.
Organising and integrating knowledge
[Bearbeiten]Categories, internal links, metadata and naming conventions connect a new contribution with existing material. Good integration prevents isolated pages and duplicated information.
Multimedia and accessibility
[Bearbeiten]Images, diagrams, audio or video should serve a clear purpose. Alternative text, captions, sufficient contrast and meaningful headings make information more accessible.
Classroom activities
[Bearbeiten]Update outdated content
[Bearbeiten]Revise a prepared page containing old dates, broken links and outdated statements.
Expected outcome: An updated version with sources.
One topic, three audiences
[Bearbeiten]Rewrite the same information for younger students, parents and a specialist audience.
Expected outcome: Three audience-specific versions.
Format workshop
[Bearbeiten]Transform one piece of information into a wiki entry, slide and short notice.
Expected outcome: Three format-appropriate products.
Turn text into a learning aid
[Bearbeiten]Add structure, examples, glossary terms and navigation to a dense text.
Expected outcome: A usable learning page.
Language editing
[Bearbeiten]Improve a deliberately awkward text without changing its meaning.
Expected outcome: A polished version.
Wiki instead of paper chaos
[Bearbeiten]Organise several fragments into pages, categories and internal links.
Expected outcome: A knowledge structure.
Add multimedia carefully
[Bearbeiten]Select one image or diagram and justify why it improves understanding.
Expected outcome: An enriched page.
Peer editing
[Bearbeiten]Use a shared checklist to review and revise another student's contribution.
Expected outcome: A revision record.
School-platform newsroom
